Mike Ditka, who coached the Chicago Bears to their only Super Bowl title, has died at 86. His family confirmed his death and called him "the heart of our family".
Before leading the Bears to victory in Super Bowl XX, Ditka played tight end for the team. Chicago selected him fifth overall in the 1961 draft, and he earned NFL rookie of the year honors.
Ditka grew up in the working-class town of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. A scholarship took him to the University of Pittsburgh, where he became an All-American tight end in 1960. Chicago later came to know him as “Da Coach.”
