Willis Tower will light its antenna navy and orange Friday night in tribute to Mike Ditka, the former Chicago Bears coach who died earlier that day at 86. The tower announced the plan.
Ditka died around 9 a.m. Friday. His family said he would be deeply missed and remembered. Bears coach Ben Johnson, players and other NFL figures paid tribute throughout the day; Johnson called Ditka the gold standard at Halas Hall.
Ditka's No. 89 was the last number retired by the Bears. The team described his impact across decades as a player, coach and ambassador as immeasurable. Willis Tower regularly uses its lighting to mark special events, causes and tributes.
