Houston tight end Patrick Overmyer caught four touchdown passes, tying the NCAA single-game record for his position in a 35-16 win at Kansas State on Saturday.
The No. 22 Cougars won in Manhattan, Kansas, as Overmyer scored on catches of 1, 2, 2 and 8 yards. He passed Houston’s previous tight end mark of three touchdown catches, set by Mark Hafner against Air Force in 2008. No Houston player had caught four touchdowns in a game since Patrick Edwards did so against Tulsa in 2011.
Quarterback Conner Weigman completed 19 of 30 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns, while Makhi Hughes scored on a 13-yard run. Houston’s defense kept Kansas State out of the end zone until late in the third quarter and sacked quarterback Avery Johnson twice.
Houston improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play. The Cougars are scheduled to host No. 18 Oklahoma State next Saturday at TDECU Stadium.
