Boyle Heights residents have called on the Los Angeles County district attorney to open a criminal investigation into the Lineage Cold Storage fire. They want the office’s Environmental Crimes Division to examine the blaze, whose cause the Los Angeles Fire Department classified as undetermined.
The fire broke out June 17, 2026, at the facility on Los Palos Street. Fire investigators traced its origin to the roof, in or near a section of solar panels. They determined that an electrical incident occurred there but could not establish what caused it.
The blaze destroyed the warehouse and about 88 million pounds of food. Residents of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles have raised concerns about health risks and harm to children and the wider community. The county public health department addressed the resulting health crisis more than a month after the fire.
Lineage has filed a $1 billion lawsuit against solar operator Altus Power and maintenance contractor Pearce Services. The company alleges gross negligence involving the rooftop solar installation; it also faces more than 300 individual lawsuits.
