Glendale police commander is no longer with city amid out-of-state investigation
Commander Jay O'Neill is no longer employed by Glendale after police learned he was involved in an out-of-state criminal investigation, according to a department spokesperson and an internal email from Chief Colby Brandt.
Brandt told staff on Sept. 17 that the Arizona Department of Public Safety contacted Glendale police earlier that day about the case and asked for help safely taking O'Neill into custody. The chief did not describe the allegations and said more details could emerge in the coming days.
Glendale police confirmed the information in Brandt's email. O'Neill had been one of the department's top executives. No further details about the investigation, including the state involved or possible charges, were disclosed.
