Ken Griffin is donating $3 billion to Carnegie Mellon University, including $2 billion for a new campus in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, the university announced Wednesday.
Carnegie Mellon says the donation is the largest single gift ever made to a U.S. university. The planned 35-acre campus, north of downtown Miami, will focus on societal challenges and is expected to enroll about 3,500 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Griffin founded the investment firm Citadel and moved it from Chicago to South Florida in 2022. He attended high school in Boca Raton and owns a waterfront home in Miami.
