Three elected officials are pressing for safety changes at a Woodside crossing after a truck fatally struck 19-year-old Nishath Jannath there in March.
In a Sept. 28 letter to Queens Borough Transportation Commissioner Liz Garcia, Steven Raga, Julie Won and Grace Meng raised concerns about 62nd Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Raga is a state assembly member, Won a city council member and Meng a U.S. representative.
Jannath was crossing the street late on March 29 when a Royal Waste truck turning from Roosevelt Avenue onto 62nd Street hit her. The location was about half a mile from her home. The officials said her family has continued to seek safety improvements since her death.
Raga said his office had discussed an inspection with the transportation department, but construction in the area has delayed it. The intersection has no pedestrian signal.
