The Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty 85-83 in New York on Friday night, completing a three-game WNBA semifinal sweep and reaching the Finals for the first time since 2013.
Angel Reese scored 22 points for fourth-seeded Atlanta, which remains unbeaten this postseason. The Dream led 83-81 with 17.7 seconds left after a turnover gave New York another chance, but Breanna Stewart missed a contested layup. DeWanna Bonner then made two free throws with 6.2 seconds remaining.
Reese joined Atlanta in an offseason trade after being named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. The Dream, who had not reached the semifinals since 2018, will seek their first franchise championship against Golden State. The Finals begin Saturday, Oct. 17; Golden State advanced by sweeping defending champion Las Vegas.
