Kaiser Permanente is expected to pay more than 1,000 registered nurses for wages they were owed after a payroll error, the California Nurses Association says. An arbitrator has resolved the yearslong dispute, though the amount each nurse will receive remains unclear.
The union estimates the missed pay could total tens of millions of dollars. It says nurses first alerted Kaiser to underpayments dating back to at least 2021, after the company changed its payroll system.
Kaiser disputes the union’s description of the case but says it will meet its obligations under the arbitrator’s decision. The arbitration followed a process set out in the labor contract between Kaiser and the union, which represents about 25,000 nurses at 22 Kaiser facilities.
