About 100 people gathered at San Francisco’s Sutro Heights on a Saturday afternoon to scream toward the ocean. Danielle Egan had invited strangers with posters for an event she called Guttural Scream at the Sea.
Egan led a group scream before running a competition judged on volume, duration and style. The loudest scream measured 121.9 decibels. Attendees described different reasons for taking part: Davis Cox saw it as a way to release frustration, while Lauryn Bell came after a difficult relationship.
Egan said she hopes to hold more gatherings.
