The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 for violating its personal conduct policy after his arrest in an Ohio prostitution sting.
Police said York was arrested in August after trying to pay $160 for sex with a woman he believed was a prostitute. An initial prostitution charge was changed to disorderly conduct. York entered no-contest pleas on that charge and a criminal-tools charge tied to his use of a phone to answer an undercover online ad. He was fined $1,150 and received concurrent one-day jail terms, already satisfied by time served.
In a statement released by the team, York accepted the NFL penalty and apologized. He has missed games and league meetings this season; the league counted three games toward his suspension. He can return Oct. 20, after the 49ers play Washington the night before.
