The Golden State Valkyries reached their first WNBA Finals with an 87-77 overtime win over the Las Vegas Aces on Friday, completing a three-game semifinal sweep in their second season.
Golden State trailed by nine at halftime before a 17-0 third-quarter run put it ahead. Las Vegas regained a six-point lead late, but the Valkyries rallied to force overtime and outscored the Aces 16-6 in the extra period. Kayla Thornton had 18 points and nine rebounds; Gabby Williams scored eight of her 16 points in overtime. A’ja Wilson led Las Vegas with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The Valkyries will face the Atlanta Dream, who swept the New York Liberty in the other semifinal. Golden State won all three regular-season meetings with Atlanta and will host Game 1 of the best-of-seven Finals at Chase Center on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m. PT.
