The Golden State Valkyries reached their first WNBA Finals by completing a three-game semifinal sweep of the Las Vegas Aces.
Golden State won 87-77 in overtime Friday at Michelob ULTRA Arena after taking the first two games at home. Kayla Thornton had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kiah Stokes added 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. The Valkyries rallied from an 11-point deficit early in the second half with a 17-0 third-quarter run.
Now in their second season, the Valkyries will face the Atlanta Dream, who also completed a three-game semifinal sweep Friday against the New York Liberty. Golden State won all three meetings with Atlanta during the regular season.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven Finals is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m. Pacific at Chase Center. Golden State has home-court advantage and would host Games 2, 5 and 7 as well, with the last two played only if necessary.
