Gabby Williams scored 25 points as the Golden State Valkyries beat the defending champion Las Vegas Aces 71-60 on Sunday in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals.
Williams added 11 rebounds and five assists at Chase Center. She scored 18 points before halftime, including a three-pointer that put Golden State ahead 32-23. Kiah Stokes had 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Las Vegas finished with its lowest point total of the season.
A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 24 points, and Chelsea Gray scored 16. Las Vegas guard Jewell Loyd left early in the third quarter with a left leg injury. The team said she was being evaluated; coach Becky Hammon had no immediate update afterward.
Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Wednesday night at Chase Center. Golden State advanced to the semifinals with a first-round series win over Dallas.
