A grand jury has indicted Arizona Attorney General’s Office special agent DuLance Morin on suspicion of negligent homicide in the shooting death of his Mesa neighbor, 32-year-old Maria Lewis.
Mesa police confirmed Morin’s involvement in the Feb. 28 shooting near Ray Road and Inspirian Parkway. Lewis, a mother of seven, was shot at Morin’s doorstep. Morin reportedly told detectives the shot came from his hand but described it as an accident.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office pursued the felony charge after Mesa police recommended negligent homicide charges. Morin was placed on administrative leave on March 2, and Attorney General’s Office officials say he remains employed there.
