Henry Graham was sentenced to nine years in prison on Friday for the death of Russ Long, who was struck with a single punch on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. A judge had found Graham guilty of involuntary manslaughter months earlier, ruling that Illinois law barred a murder conviction in the case.
Long, 49, lived in River North and worked for Northern Trust. Prosecutors alleged that Graham approached him from behind near the Cartier store at 630 North Michigan Avenue on June 29, 2023, and punched him in the back of the head. Long fell and struck his head on the pavement.
Prosecutors said officers detained Graham after witnesses followed him and heard him acknowledge hitting Long, but police then released him. Long’s friends sought a police report for days; the attack was documented after a friend called 911 from his hospital bedside on July 2.
