Black smoke rises from Houston plant after power outage

A black plume was visible over southeast Houston after TPC Group said a power outage triggered flaring at its Houston Operations facility.

The company said the outage began at about 3 p.m. at its site on Goodyear Drive and affected boilers, leading to visible smoke from the flare. TPC Group said crews were restoring power in an orderly manner, restarting boilers and monitoring air in and around the site.

TPC Group said it had made required notifications and did not believe the community was being affected. The facility is located at 8600 Park Place Boulevard. The cause of the outage was not yet known, and it remained unclear how long the flaring would continue.
