Culver City restarted CityBus service after a weekend suspension prompted by the fatal shooting of an operator.
The driver was shot around 5:15 p.m. Thursday near Centinela Avenue and Washington Boulevard in Mar Vista, police said. He died after being taken to a hospital. Police described an apparent dispute over a wrong turn with a passenger they said was intoxicated.
On Friday, a task force arrested Jose Zayas, 55, at a Motor Avenue address on suspicion of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Bail was set at $3 million. Police expect to submit the case to county prosecutors early this week for a decision on formal charges. The driver's name has not been released.
Mayor Freddy Puza mourned the operator, while the city planned crisis support for its staff.
