The Danny fire triggered an evacuation order in Gorman on Thursday and forced a temporary closure of Interstate 5 through the Grapevine, authorities said.
Los Angeles County firefighters reported a 10-acre brush fire shortly before 5 p.m. By about 6:45 p.m., Cal Fire put the burned area at roughly 140 acres and containment at 7%. The evacuation order covered an area between Old Ridge Road and Interstate 5 near Bald Mountain. Nearby areas, including Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, received evacuation warnings.
Smoke impaired visibility near Smokey Bear Road, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Christian Stevens said. Both directions of the freeway were closed from about 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., when some lanes reopened. Cal Fire said the cause remains under investigation.
