Police said a teenager killed in an Oakland hotel room in 1969 has been identified as 16-year-old Joanne Yvonne Burdick. A possible connection to former FBI most-wanted fugitive Taylor Morris Teaford remains unconfirmed.
On October 2, 1969, witnesses saw a man with a crew cut enter room 15 of the St. Louis Hotel with a young woman. Screams were heard less than half an hour later. Police found the girl beaten and strangled with her clothing; the man was gone.
A woman who said a crew-cut man had attacked her later told police she had seen him enter the room with a young woman that day. Teaford, who had been placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list in 1968, was considered a possible match for the suspected attacker. The account does not establish who killed Burdick.
