Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on Friday as a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 105 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.
Damaging winds, heavy rain and flooding struck parts of the Florida Panhandle and Alabama. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis urged people to stay off the roads and warned that flash flooding could affect the region. The governors of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi declared states of emergency.
The National Hurricane Center warned of life-threatening storm surge along the Gulf Coast and flash flooding inland. Forecasts included a surge of up to seven feet near the Alabama-Florida border. Isaias had weakened from Category 3 strength earlier Friday, but was expected to move across Alabama toward the Tennessee Valley over the weekend.
