Rachel brought strong winds, rain and damaging coastal flooding to Southern California as it made landfall. A Long Beach boardwalk was destroyed, and winds battered the Inland Empire.
By Sunday morning, Rachel was no longer tropical, the National Weather Service said, but the threat of flooding remained. The worst of the storm had shifted inland toward the California and Nevada deserts; coastal flood warnings or advisories stretched from San Diego to Santa Cruz.
In Las Vegas, 1.08 inches of rain fell after midnight, exceeding the previous October 11 mark of 0.78 inches set in 2012. Forecasters expected more showers and isolated thunderstorms, with flash flooding possible where rainfall is heaviest. Much of Utah was under a flood watch through Monday as Rachel’s remnants moved north.
