Chicago police say an off-duty officer shot a man during a confrontation in Little Village early Sunday. Another man was injured.
At about 12:45 a.m., the officer stopped his car near West 24th Street's 2600 block to speak with people on the sidewalk. Police say one man came up to the car and struck the officer's face. The officer fired twice at him, then drove farther along the street, got out and fired additional shots toward the group.
The first man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition and was arrested. The second man reached the hospital on his own in good condition. Police did not specify whether gunfire caused his injury. The officer also received hospital treatment for injuries from the encounter.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting. The officer has been assigned administrative duties.
