The Houston Astros will not renew manager Joe Espada’s contract when it expires at the end of October, the team confirmed Wednesday.
Espada spent three seasons as manager after taking over when Dusty Baker retired following the 2023 season. He had been Houston’s bench coach since 2018.
The Astros finished this season 81-81 and won the AL West, but lost both games of their wild-card series. It was their second consecutive home sweep in the wild-card round, leaving Espada without a postseason win as manager.
Houston parted ways with general manager Dana Brown in August. The team also announced changes to its coaching staff for 2027, though the available announcement does not identify which coaches will leave or which staff members will stay. The moves come amid a franchise reset that could mark the end of an era.
