Giants running back Cam Skattebo lost a fumble at the Washington 24-yard line in overtime, ending a chance to set up a winning field goal. New York and the Commanders finished tied 27-27.
Giants coach John Harbaugh said the plan was to move closer, protect the ball and leave Washington no time to answer a potential field goal. Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada had already missed three kicks. Skattebo's turnover was his fourth fumble of the season but his first lost.
Skattebo took responsibility for the mistake. The Commanders then mishandled their final overtime play, and Skattebo said their error brought him relief. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels also took blame for the botched play.
