Dodgers manager Dave Roberts plans to speak with Shohei Ohtani about his health and playing status after Los Angeles fell behind the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 in the National League Championship Series. Benching Ohtani is a possibility, but Roberts has not announced a decision.
Ohtani is dealing with injuries to his left knee and right bicep. ESPN’s Aiden Gonzalez reported that Ohtani would sit only if he felt the injuries compromised his ability to play; otherwise, the plan is to keep him in the lineup. Roberts said he wants to determine what is best for Ohtani and the team.
In Monday’s 7-4 Game 2 loss, Ohtani went hitless in four at-bats and struck out twice, leaving his postseason batting average at .150. He has not pitched since July 3 and has spent time on the injured list this season.
