Arizona State University is reportedly in talks with Colorado Avalanche assistant Dave Hakstol about becoming its men’s hockey head coach. Multiple reports say negotiations are underway, but ASU has not confirmed them.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Avalanche gave ASU permission to speak with Hakstol. An ASU Athletics spokesperson said there would be no announcement Monday.
The coaching talks come amid an ongoing investigation into a player’s collapse. Hakstol previously coached at the University of North Dakota, where his teams reached the Frozen Four seven times in 11 seasons. He later became head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
