Shohei Ohtani gave reporters an upbeat update Friday on his left knee and right biceps, a day before the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

The knee trouble includes inflammation and lingering soreness, while Ohtani has reported discomfort in his right biceps. He has not pitched since leaving a July 3 start against San Diego with the biceps issue. The knee problem first surfaced when he left a June 11 game against Pittsburgh.

Ohtani missed Sept. 8-22 while on the injured list but returned for the Dodgers’ final five regular-season games. He has remained in the batting lineup for much of the season, hitting .275 with 30 home runs and 81 RBIs in 135 games.

Whether he will need further medical attention in the offseason remains unclear. Los Angeles enters the series as the National League’s No. 2 seed after bypassing the Wild Card Round.
