Five Chicago White Sox pitchers held the Cleveland Guardians to three hits in a 3-0 win Saturday in Game 1 of the AL Division Series.
Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run homer in the fourth after Miguel Vargas singled. Colson Montgomery doubled home Kyle Teel in the seventh for Chicago’s third run. The White Sox pitchers struck out 12; Bryan Hudson earned the win, and Grant Taylor pitched four innings for the save.
Cleveland loaded the bases with two outs in both the third and fourth innings but failed to score. The Guardians had won their third straight AL Central title by one game over the White Sox, who reached this series by sweeping Houston in the wild card round.
