Oklahoma beat No. 1 Texas 27-24 on a 47-yard field goal by Tate Sandell at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The Sooners gained ground in the second half as Texas made costly mistakes. Oklahoma intercepted quarterback Arch Manning twice in the fourth quarter. Peyton Bowen returned one of those passes 42 yards for a touchdown and the lead.
After another interception with 19 seconds left, Oklahoma receiver Isaiah Sategna made two catches that set up Sandell’s winning kick. Earlier, Sooners defensive lineman Danny Okoye blocked a Texas punt, which Oklahoma recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.
It was the first time an unranked team had beaten a No. 1-ranked opponent in the Red River Rivalry. Only twice before had the top-ranked team lost in the matchup, most recently in 2008.
