Los Angeles port officials reported a record 1,042,652 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) of cargo in September. That topped the previous monthly high, set in July 2025, by about 23,000 TEUs.
Imports accounted for 545,696 TEUs. Port Executive Director Gene Seroka said that was 19% more than in September 2025 and 26% above the five-year average for the month. He pointed to consumer demand, inventory replenishment and cargo being routed to Los Angeles amid difficulties on other trade routes.
The port also handled nearly 3 million TEUs during the quarter, another record. Including June, volume approached 4 million TEUs over four months. Exports rose 10%, although Seroka said exporters, including farmers, still faced headwinds.
