The Florida High School Athletic Association has barred Miami Carol City Senior High’s football team from postseason play after a brawl with Grayson High School players in Georgia. The association notified the school Wednesday that 15 Carol City players also face suspensions of varying lengths.
The fight broke out as the teams shook hands after Grayson’s 10-9 win in Loganville. Video shared on social media shows players from both teams trying to hit one another and grabbing jerseys. In a letter to principal Bridget McKinney, association executive director Craig Damon said the sanctions followed a review of video and a report from Carol City.
The school must also pay a $1,500 penalty and hold a compliance workshop. Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesperson Elmo Lugo said the district was aware of the sanctions and expects student-athletes to show sportsmanship and self-discipline.
