The Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 4-3 in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday, eliminating New York and advancing to the AL Championship Series.
Afterward, Rays players played and sang along to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York in their locker room. The song is normally heard at Yankee Stadium after Yankees wins.
Victor Mesa Jr. hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put Tampa Bay ahead 4-2. Later that inning, a review changed an apparent game-tying, two-run homer by Yankees infielder Anthony Volpe to an RBI double after a fan reached over the left-field wall and touched the ball. New York did not score again.
It is the Rays’ third trip to the AL Championship Series. They will face the winner of the series between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians.
