The Yankees lost 5-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday night at Tropicana Field, leaving them one defeat from elimination. New York made four errors, including three in the first inning.
Third baseman Ryan McMahon mishandled a grounder from leadoff batter Yandy Díaz. Díaz later scored when Jazz Chisholm’s throw on a double-play attempt went into the dugout. Ben Rice hit two solo home runs for the Yankees, who managed four hits in the game.
Rice’s first homer tied the score in the fourth inning. Rays starter Freddy Peralta allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one over 4⅔ innings. New York had managed just one hit in its 1-0 Game 1 loss; its five hits through the first two games were a franchise low for a two-game span in one playoff series.
