Texas hospitals regain nearly $12 billion in Medicaid funding
Nearly $12 billion in Medicaid funding will be restored to Texas hospitals, Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday, ending a dispute with federal officials that had stretched for almost a year.
The halt began Sept. 1, at the start of the state’s new fiscal year. Abbott said the money covers hospitals, physicians, rural clinics, nursing facilities and behavioral health providers across Texas. It was the first time since 2014 that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had stopped the supplemental funding.
Hospitals had been facing losses of about $27 million a day while the payments were on hold. It was not immediately clear when the money would be transferred to hospitals.
