A rider died after being ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday. State regulators and Cobb County police are investigating the cause.
Four other riders were injured, according to Cobb County police. The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner is conducting a joint inquiry with county police. Investigators are expected to examine ride data, restraint locking pins, maintenance records and surveillance video; no cause has been established.
Park officials said Six Flags Over Georgia will reopen Friday for regular weekend operations, but Goliath will remain closed. Six Flags has also temporarily closed nine roller coasters at six parks nationwide as a precaution.
Georgia law requires amusement park operators to check rides daily before admitting guests and to obtain annual state operating permits.
