A Fort Worth district judge refused to order Tarrant County to restore 92 polling locations cut from its approved list for the Nov. 3 midterm election.
The request came from Deborah Peoples, Camille Rodriguez, Kathleen Hicks and Maryellen Hicks, who have held or currently hold Fort Worth offices. They allege the reductions will have a disproportionate effect on Black and Latino voters. Their lawsuit names the county, elections administrator Clint Ludwig and the Republican county commissioners who approved the list.
Judge J. Patrick Gallagher denied the temporary injunction after hearing more than four hours of testimony. He gave no explanation for the decision. The county will use the list approved Sept. 1, with 224 Election Day sites and 47 early-voting sites; the 2022 midterms had 316 and 50, respectively.
The plaintiffs and their attorneys said the ruling did not end the lawsuit or settle their claim about the cuts’ effects on voters.
