Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday for former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and recycling executives David and Andy Duong in a federal corruption case. The three have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Prosecutors allege Thao gave the Duong family inside information and received political benefits in a pay-to-play arrangement involving California Waste Solutions, Oakland’s curbside recycling provider.
Court filings outline further allegations involving secret recordings, payments meant to sway local politics and attempts to conceal damaging information. The jury, once seated, could hear from as many as 68 witnesses.
