Atlanta Dream players left Gateway Center Arena in College Park for San Francisco on Wednesday as fans gathered to wish them well before the WNBA Finals.
The Dream are scheduled to open the best-of-seven series against the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday, Oct. 17. Before boarding buses, players received a sendoff at the arena, where fans and staff held signs and music played.
It will be Atlanta’s first Finals appearance since 2013. Local high school basketball players were among those at the sendoff; one student described the Dream as an inspiration to girls who play basketball in Atlanta.
Games 3 and 4 are scheduled for State Farm Arena, a venue change announced this week by the Dream and the Atlanta Hawks.
