Federal investigators say Devito Duran Young used contraband cellphones while imprisoned at Macon State Prison to order fentanyl from China. They say he used encrypted messaging apps, paid with cryptocurrency and directed deliveries across Georgia.
The operation began in 2023. During a July 2024 search of a Cordele home used as a lab, agents seized more than 175 metal pans, measuring beakers, cash, ledgers and 350 dried sheets of paper soaked in synthetic cannabinoids.
Young was sentenced to 327 months in prison. Andreaus Benard Oliver Jr., who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, received a 14-year sentence for his role in the drug ring. Trace Davrin Works and Oliver’s father, Andreaus Benard Oliver Sr., also received prison sentences.
Two Chinese nationals charged in the case, Xin Wang and Gao Yong, remain at large. Authorities have not said whether there will be further arrests.
