The Chicago White Sox lost Game 4 of their American League Division Series to the Cleveland Guardians 9-5, sending the series to a winner-take-all Game 5 in Cleveland.
Chicago's pitching faltered early. Opener Hagen Smith recorded two outs before walking the bases loaded. Erick Fedde replaced him and ended the inning without allowing a run, but later gave up a solo home run to Guardians catcher Patrick Bailey.
The White Sox had also lost to Cleveland on Wednesday. A win in Game 4 would have given Chicago its first postseason series victory on its home field in 120 years. Instead, the teams will play once more to decide who advances.
