The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the Sept. 15 helicopter crash in Chatsworth that killed three people. It does not identify a cause, and a final report is pending.
The victims were aerial reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw and Edy Guitierrez Mejia, 29. The NTSB said the helicopter left Whiteman Airport to gather video of a fatal bus crash in Chatsworth. Flight-tracking data showed it near that scene for about an hour and 24 minutes.
Investigators reviewed a recording made by Moreno. In the final minute of flight, the helicopter was about 800 feet above the ground and slowed to roughly 6 knots of ground speed. The recording captured a change in the frequency of helicopter noise during the last 29 seconds, but the preliminary report did not establish why the aircraft crashed.
