An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed multiple times in the Bronx on Friday afternoon, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said. Preliminary information suggests the attack happened during an attempted robbery.
Authorities placed the stabbing near 3174 Rochambeau Ave. in Norwood, shortly before 2 p.m. on Oct. 2. The detective was in stable condition at Jacobi Hospital. Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch went to the hospital to see him and his family, the mayor said.
People familiar with the case said two men approached the detective as he walked to his car and tried to take his chain. They said he sustained at least seven stab wounds before the men left on a scooter. Those details remained preliminary Friday afternoon.
