More than 1.3 million people may be affected by a breach of Arizona’s court system, including people referred to a court debt collection program.
Court officials said an employee clicked a malicious link before IT staff contained the breach within two hours. Chief Justice Ann Timmer said the FBI was notified. Names, case numbers and Social Security numbers linked to the FARE program may have been compromised, while officials say court records remain intact.
According to the court, hackers also accessed more than 150,000 confidential Foster Care Review Board reports dating to 2010. The reports hold sensitive child welfare information. The Judicial Branch has alerted state child safety officials, attorneys in dependency cases, juvenile court judges and board members.
Officials plan to text people in the FARE program about the attack. The court urges those potentially affected to place a hold or freeze on their credit files with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Advocate Lori Ford said parents whose children’s information may be involved had not been notified.
