A federal judge has granted final approval to AT&T’s $177 million settlement over two data breaches involving customers’ personal information.
Disclosed in 2024, the breaches involved data from millions of current and former customers, some dating back to 2019. AT&T reached the combined settlement last year and set up a claim form for affected customers.
Customers who submitted claims could receive payments after the appeals period expires. Under the settlement, those affected by the first breach may be eligible for up to $5,000; those affected by the second may qualify for up to $2,500. The final amount depends on each claimant’s documented losses and the total number of claims. People familiar with the settlement expected most eligible customers to receive $6.50 to $40.
The settlement calls for payments within 60 days of its effective date.
