Texas diesel average rises to a record $5.83 a gallon
Diesel in Texas climbed to an average of $5.83 a gallon Monday, a record level that puts the statewide price close to $6, according to AAA.
That was 33 cents higher than a week earlier, 81 cents above last month and $2.62 more than a year ago. Regular unleaded averaged $3.84 statewide, while drivers in Harris County were paying about $3.76 for regular gas, AAA said.
Texas fuel prices remained below national averages despite the increase. AAA listed the U.S. average at $6.23 for diesel and $4.31 for regular unleaded.
Higher diesel costs are also affecting transportation providers. Senior Access, which serves older adults in Round Rock, Hutto, Pflugerville and East Austin, is among the local nonprofits feeling the pressure from rising pump prices.
