Four people suffer minor injuries after Brickell drill rig collapse
An 85-foot drill rig collapsed at a Brickell construction site Monday morning, injuring four people, including a woman whose BMW was struck on Brickell Bay Drive near Southeast 12th Street.
Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia said the woman saw the rig falling at about 8 a.m. and reversed as it came down onto the hood of her SUV. The vehicle caught fire, but she was able to get out from the rear and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The rig also fell onto a construction box with two workers inside. Fire officials said both were rescued and had minor injuries. The crane operator was also hospitalized with minor injuries. Two parked cars were hit as well, but no one was inside them.
