President Donald Trump said Ukraine should replace its president after Volodymyr Zelensky criticized a US deal with Russia on diesel exports.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Saturday, Trump objected to Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries and suggested a different Ukrainian leader could reach a deal. Zelensky had warned that allowing Russian diesel into the US would give Moscow money to buy military equipment and continue its war against Ukraine.
Trump confirmed on Friday that Washington had agreed with Moscow to suspend sanctions on Russian diesel exports until April 7. Ukraine has been under martial law since Russia's 2022 invasion, with elections suspended. Fuel supplies have also been strained by the US-Israeli war against Iran and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
