Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old chef at Nobu Malibu, died after a teenager’s SUV struck his parked car on Pacific Coast Highway early Saturday.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the crash happened around 6:53 a.m. near 22600 Pacific Coast Highway. A 16-year-old boy driving a gray Range Rover eastbound hit Uchimiya’s car on the eastbound shoulder, investigators said. Uchimiya was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies arrested the boy, whose name has not been released. They have not said whether he had a valid driver’s license. The cause remains under investigation, though drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Uchimiya had worked at Nobu Malibu for 25 years, according to details about his career.
