A Flydubai co-pilot attacked the captain with a crash axe and tried to seize the flight controls, UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif al Shamsi said Saturday. He described the incident as an attempted terrorist attack.
The attack took place Wednesday on flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, which carried 174 mostly Israeli passengers. Witnesses and Israeli officials said crew members and passengers subdued the suspected attacker, averting a crash.
The Saudi Interior Ministry said the suspect, an Omani citizen, was transferred from Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi on Thursday. His medical condition remains unclear, and authorities have not officially identified him. Al Shamsi said investigators are still examining the circumstances, motive and any possible links to the incident.
